She need only show separate minds, as alive as her own, struggling with the idea that other minds were equally alive. I feel that perhaps I have sabotaged this book somewhat as I read it kan after finishing Love In the Time of Cholera, and perhaps in retrospect should have read a poetry book or some non-fiction in between. The whole book just feels far too mannered, too neatly composed, too written.
